KIK Consumer Brands – Automotive Division

Our Automotive business is comprised of the Prestone® and Holts® businesses. We develop, manufacture and market antifreeze/coolant and other automotive functional fluids and car appearance products in North America and key international markets. Prestone® is the number one branded consumer choice for antifreeze/coolant in North America. Other brands in our Automotive Care business include Holts®, Redex® and Simoniz® (outside North America).

This position will drive and execute the daily tasks for Prestone Branded Performance Chemical product development, innovation discovery, brand strategy development & execution, planning and portfolio management to help Prestone to become the global leader in performance lubricants.

Collaboration, Impact & Influence

  • Will be a key agent of change and influence within the organization to help others understand the business, vision for the brand, improve processes and identify organizational gaps.
  • Establishes a strong rapport with Sales teams, Operations, Customer Service, Business Development, R&D and Marketing to generate new ideas and align priorities.
  • Works independently, but must ensure direction is aligned with Vice President of Marketing.
  • Work directly with Marketing team and Channel Marketing to provide strategic brand direction and product information for the creation of promotions, media, events, distributor incentives, etc.
  • Will work directly with contract manufacturers and other outside organizations routinely.
  • Responsible for leading and managing direct report.
  • Serves as Brand Champion by maintaining strong brand stewardship, ensuring brand fit and consistency in brand execution.


Strategy Development

    • Accountable for the three-year product plan to support the over-arching plan with specific accountability to plans for assigned brand.
    • Develops and presents new product business cases including cost/benefit analysis and resource planning.
    • Reinvent, reposition and grow the brand in a very competitive performance chemical category via new product and brand development efforts that strategically fit with competitive positionin


Brand Management, Product Development & Innovation

  • Identify and translate consumer/shopper insights along with opportunities from R&D, Business Development, Marketing and others into the development of new ideas and products
  • Defines the series of steps, critical tasks and market information needed to take an “idea” from early concept to a fully executed retail offering. This includes:
    • Setting direction for product positioning, launch timing, packaging, pricing, distribution, formula specifications, launch needs, etc.
    • Create, lead and manage product launch timelines
    • Establish and lead all product launch cross-functional meetings
    • Drives day-to-day activities ensuring critical milestones are being met to keep product development plans on track and according to business plan.
    • Provide leadership and creative and strategic oversight throughout the product development process
    • Use judgment, influence, and gating process to stop less viable projects early to avoid unproductive consumption of resources
  • Work directly with agencies to perform pre-launch research and testing and identify post-launch research and agency activities to obtain performance analytics.
  • Work directly with Sales & Marketing teams to influence the development and launch support materials to ensure fit for US market.
  • Works directly with Sales to co-create new products with retailers, develop plans to assist Account Managers in selling new products into new categories.
  • Business and product planning strategies to include management of product life cycle.
    • Work with other functional areas to gain a complete understanding of market needs, competitor price points, propose pricing, merchandising, packaging and promotional strategies as well as key technical & manufacturing hurdles that must be overcome.
    • Accountable for assessing U.S. product health and delivering the results to senior management. Works directly with finance to analyze overall product and promotional health. Contributes to product forecasting, and setting initial P&L projections. Provides marketing insight and weighs this against analytical facts to recommend best action plan.
    • Maintains a strong understanding of industry and competitors and search for new opportunities found in trends that drive marketplace behavior. Continually evaluates and recommends brand solutions to assess which best meet changing business needs and align with company strategies and focus. Prepares business cases and cost justifications to focus on the strongest marketing initiatives to maximize return on investment.


Qualifications (Requirements/ Skills):


Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in marketing or related field plus 7+ years of Brand Management or Product Development experience, including a minimum of 3 years that include experience developing and launching new products with a consumer packaged goods company preferably in the automotive aftercare market, motor sports products, marine products or any chemical/lubrication company.

  • MBA strongly preferred
  • Prior people management experience leading professional level staff is desired.
  • Progressive experience in strategy, innovation, product, and brand management (6-10 years)
    • Must be strategic and have experience developing brand, product and consumer marketing strategies. Must have a strong understanding of marketing concepts, terminology and stay abreast of all product marketing trends. Must be able to apply basic marketing concepts (e.g., brand positioning, brand equity/engagement, SWOT analysis, competitive assessment, marketing strategies, consumer segmentation) used in the development of marketing plans.
  • Must have strong project management skills
  • Strong analytical and technical skills; comfortable with syndicated data
    • Strong business and analytical skills are required to analyze and interpret results of research, marking promotions, educational programs and brand targets.
  • Must have prior P&L accountability and able to make insightful observations that drive profitability. Must be able to tie marketing objectives to overall performance metrics and/or ROI.
  • Experience and knowledge of how to merchandise products to drive revenue, including experience driving pricing strategies, product positioning, consumer promotions and executing tactics according to plan are required.
  • Project leadership in a cross-functional environment (5-10 years)
    • Must be able to work in teams and ability to lead large teams from multiple disciplines to orchestrate product launch, phase out and promotional support. Must demonstrate strong collaboration, flexibility, communication, leadership and diplomacy skills.
  • Incumbent must demonstrate a strong entrepreneurial aptitude and be solution-focused. A strong sense of urgency and ability to manage numerous projects at one time are required.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills to effectively communicate with senior management, retailers (trade contacts), industry professionals, and market affiliates, sales teams and other internal departments. Must be experienced in presenting in front of large audiences and senior executives.
  • Approximately 35% of travel required
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Competent using MS Office including Microsoft Project
