    The Process Safety Engineer is responsible for leading and supporting the site’s Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Program (RMP) initiatives and for assisting in the compliance efforts with the applicable process safety regulations.


    Position works closely with the site Engineering Manager, HESS, Maintenance and Operations personnel.  Position reports directly to the Engineering Manager and Divisional Manager of Process Safety.




    Essential Job Functions

    • Leads and drives efforts to ensure compliance with OSHA’s Process Safety Management and applicable EPA’s Risk Management Program requirements.
    • Site subject matter expert (SME) in PSM and RMP.
    • Develops and executes tactical and strategic plans to improve process safety management performance.
    • Identifies process safety improvement opportunities through interaction with all process safety stakeholders. Makes recommendations, justifications and implements new tools and work process improvements.
    • Establishes and maintains site process safety management objectives and targets.
    • Serves as point of contact for PSM/RMP issues for the site develops and drives risk reduction strategies.
    • PSM Program kept updated and current.
    • Coordinates the site Process Safety Team meetings and activities to help drive PSM/RMP program implementation improvements.
    • Leads the site Process Hazardous Analysis program in order to identify, evaluate and control potential hazards.
    • Assists in developing and writing effective operating and maintenance procedures.
    • Provides oversight and conducts audits of the site Management of Change (MOC) and Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR) programs.
    • Leads PSM/RMP incident investigations including root cause analyses.
    • Provides oversight and completes reporting on site PSM/RMP corrective actions tracking system.
    • Collaborates with engineering and plant operations leadership to scope and prioritize capital improvement projects to improve process safety.
    • Monitors key process safety leading and lagging indicators and metrics, identifies trends and implements necessary actions to address. Presents trends to site leadership.
    • Assists in the site management, coordination and implementation of all elements of the OHSA PSM and EPA RMP programs to help drive regulatory compliance.
    • Share and implement best practices with other sites.
    • Schedules and coordinates PSM/RMP compliance audits at least every 3 years.
    • Serves as site contact and coordinator for regulatory PSM/RMP audits.
    • Provides oversight and completes reporting on compliance and regulatory audit recommendations tracking, and drives timely resolution of these recommendations.
    • Conducts internal reviews of PSM/RMP program implementation in order to identify, evaluate and help implement improvement opportunities.



    Minimum Education

    • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering required


    • 5+ years of engineering experience in the chemical manufacturing, personal care or handling industry is preferred; similar experience will be considered.  
    • Some knowledge and understanding of federal, state and local process safety regulations is preferred.
    • Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Plans (RMP)
    • Experience in the consumer products, personal care, oil and gas or chemical manufacturing industries preferred. 
    • On-the-job required travel time: Not typically required.
    • Availability: 24/7
