    This position may be based from at KCM's Rosemont HQs or at the KIK Gainesville, KIK Danville, KIK Cortland, or KIK Elkhart plant locations.


    Position Summary

    The Packaging Commodity Specialist manages component sourcing projects, collaborates internally and externally to assess options of where to place business, negotiates pricing and makes supplier recommendations based on findings. The Specialist also supports many other key activities within Divisional Purchasing.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Competitively source and establish purchase prices for specifically-assigned component categories (plant specific or cross-network) to achieve quality, supply security and cost savings objectives.
    • Create concise summary buying plans, for management approval, that outline the allocation objectives, initial negotiation approach and expected financial outcomes for each assigned category.
    • Summarize the SWOTs of suppliers within the assigned categories, along with economic price drivers for the materials.
    • Develop alternate sources of supply to foster price competition. Recommend the strategic expansion or contraction of the relevant supply base, as appropriate.
    • Use project management skills to collaboratively drive the development of alternate suppliers. Understand the opportunities and situational constraints associated with cross-qualification of components from the perspectives of plant operations, product developers and customers.
    • Support component savings initiatives and track component rebates.
    • Lead other assigned supply base projects that have potential to improve operational costs, with emphasis on plant efficiency.
    • Provide expert escalation support to solve any supply issues.
    • Work with Quality Assurance and Legal departments to implement quality contracts between KIK and key suppliers.
    • Provide general support to the KIK customer quoting process, as required, to prepare full bill-of-materials quotes.




    Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Purchasing, preferably in a consumer goods manufacturing environment.
    • Demonstrated experience in contract negotiation, conflict resolution, strategy development. Proven track record of cost reduction and supplier contract negotiation

    • Thorough understanding of purchasing techniques and guidelines
    • In-depth accounting to inventory knowledge
    • Knowledge of MRP/ERP computer systems

    • Knowledgeable of MS Office Suite
